Generation Ministries has a long term vision to win the children of Sri Lanka for Jesus. Pastor Norm Hewitt has visited Sri Lanka and has
seen the need for more affective ministry to children. The initial phase of
this vision was to conduct a national children's ministers conference. Our family, David, Debbie and Kailey Looper, sought Gods direction and agreed to come to Sri Lanka to help get this ministry started. We knew we would need reliable contacts to help us get established but were not sure where to start.
God miraculously connected us with Dr. Tim Pierce, Himalaya Chiropractic Ministry, who had recently returned from Sri Lanka. He put
us in contact with Loni and Monica de Lanerolle with Mission Rainbow and told us of the tsunami relief work they were doing. They were extremely instrumental in getting us going. This included arranging housing, transportation and connecting us with numerous pastors from all parts of
the country. They continue to help us in many ways.
Our national children's workers conference was a huge success. There were over 100 churches and 300 workers in attendance. The conference was offered to everyone at no charge. Each churches was given a ministry bag that included a puppet stage, three puppets, six months of curriculum and other tools to conduct children's ministry with. An additional group of 3 volunteers came from the U.S. with Pastor Norm to teach the workshops for the three day conference.
Since the conference we have continued to conduct teacher trainings and children's programs throughout the country. Loni and Monica have helped to arrange numerous programs and teacher trainings as well. We are in the process of putting together 75 more ministry kits to give to more churches that have expressed an interest in moving forward with children's ministry.
Our goal is to change the current mind-set that many churches have towards children's workers and children's ministry. We teach workers the importance of what they are doing and their importance to the church as "ministers" to the children. We want to create a "net" of churches all around the country with
workers that have been trained to minister to children. We will then
have a ministry team of 2-3 workers that will travel the country to these areas and conduct crusades and help the churches in ministry. New believers
will be directed to those churches where the workers have been trained to
minister to children. Generation Ministries is committed to seeing this vision come to completion. Pastor Norm knows this will take many years to accomplish and is planning for years to come. We, the Loopers, are only the beginning of what we hope will be many that will come to this wonderful country to win the beautiful children for Jesus. With Gods grace we believe that the spiritual atmosphere of Sri Lanka can be changed. The children of today will be the pastors AND politicians of tomorrow.
We thank God daily for what Mission Rainbow has done to help this ministry get established it. We know that it will take all Christian ministries working together like this to get His work done. Others should learn from the example they have set.
Always amazed by His grace and mercy,
The Loopers,
David, Debbie and Kailey
